Eggs

In my quest to eat more locally grown, real food I was excited to finally find a connection for some free range eggs. Well, they may not be free ranging all that much right now since we still have 14" of snow on the ground! At any rate I am so excited to have them. Aren't they pretty? I bought 4 dozen eggs for a grand total of $8!The kids and I had fun inspecting all the eggs. There was many different shapes, some were really big and some were small, some had speckles some didn't. It was a great learning experience.I am planning on purchasing eggs from this contact until my own hens mature and produce eggs. This probably won't be until some time in late September.

And I bet you can't guess what we had for breakfast this morning? You betcha, scrambled eggs!

  1. Wow, for some reason I expected them to be more expensive! That's great! Could you taste a difference?

  2. They certainly look more interesting than boring old overprocessed white eggs. Was it worth it?

  3. Sara, those are some beautiful eggs and the price is great! I haven't found a source for FR eggs yet in my area but am still looking. We used to raise our own chickens and they were kept in a coop at night but allowed to roam all day. Man, those were the best eggs with the richest yolks! I miss them. Enjoy those eggs. :)

  4. How did you find free range eggs in your area locally? I've seen free range commercially sold, but can't find anything local. Amanda Y. ayyogurt (at) (yahoo)

  6. Yes, $2/dozen is a great deal. I found the connection from a friend of my sisters. I have been looking at some different local farms around here but alot of them don't have any available right now.

They are definitely worth the money. They have a much darker yolk and the taste is stronger than store bought eggs, but in a good way!

  7. $2 a dozen is about the going rate here in Georgia for free range eggs. The Dept of Agriculture has an online Bulletin for farmers to advertise their fare. It's a great way to help local farmers and purchase great food!
