Being More Energy Efficient in the Kitchen

Did you know that your microwave is much more energy efficient then your stove and oven? It don't require preheating and it won't take as long to cook your food.

Some things you can't cook in the microwave and you must use the oven or stove. When using your stove or oven remember these few tips.

When using your oven remember to try and not open it during cooking. This will let out heat and you will use more energy to get it back up to the desired temperature. Also, ovens are made to keep heat inside, so try and turn off your oven a couple minutes before the time goes off. As long as you don't open the door your food will keep cooking.

When using your stove make sure you are using a pan that fits the burner. Using a small pan on a large burner is just wasting energy. Also, always keep a lid on the pan when heating items on the stove. It will heat faster and save energy.

  1. I've cooked pasta in a similar way -- boil the water, pour in the pasta, turn off the heat for 15 minutes or until it's done. less heating. and don't keep the fridge near the stove and oven if you can!
