Stocking Up on Baking Supplies

During the holidays is the best time to stock up on baking supplies. Right now you can find rock bottom sales on most baking items. Try and remember that not only will you need these items around the holidays but you will also need them for the months ahead. If possible try and stock up now while the prices are cheap. I have seen 5lb bags of flour anywhere from $.88-$.99 the last few weeks. Usually flour is over $2 a bag. Sugars have also been on sale. This week I also stocked up on some free spices. Chocolate chips have been on sale lately, match those up with a coupon and you get a pretty sweet deal.

Let's not forget about those turkeys. Right now is the cheapest time to buy a turkey. Last week one of our local stores had turkeys for $.22 lb. That means you could get a 10lb bird for $2.20! That alone would feed our family of 6 three meals! Talk about a cheap dinner. Instead of getting just one turkey for your holiday dinner, if you have the freezer space why not pick up 2 or 3. A nice homemade turkey dinner would be really good come January.

If space and money allow, now is the best time to stock up on all the great deals going on. Don't forget to check your stores for after Thanksgiving clearance deals too. last year I picked up really cheap turkeys (3 of them) and I also picked up canned pumpkin for really cheap. In fact I had enough pumpkin to last me all year. I will be using the last of it to make this years pumpkin bars. Hopefully I will find it on clearance again to stock up again for next year!

  1. Rather than being frugal, why not get a job?

  2. Clearly, most of us visiting your blog do not agree with crap blog detective...jobs are great, you can still be frugal. Crap blog detective pay full price for his groceries, and I will continue to feed my family half price. Thanks for your great blog!
