Easy Slow Cooked Chicken

This is a super easy and frugal meal that is going to become part of the routine on my menu planning. Slow cooked chicken.

You can purchase whole chickens pretty cheap from the grocery store. I see them on sale frequently for around $.79 lb. I actually purchased a batch of air chilled whole chickens from a local farmer Foxhollow Poultry.

Place the whole chicken in a crock pot and add about a cup of water. Add as much salt and pepper as you like. I also added some fresh sage and oregano from my herb garden.
Place the lid on and allow to cook for 6-8 hours. Your house will start to smell amazing.
Once the chicken is cooked it will just fall off the bone. Yum!I served the chicken with mashed potatoes and dinner rolls. An easy, healthy, and cheap meal with very little work.

  1. I do this too! I drizzle a little olive oil on my chicken and then add garlic salt. :-) Everyone LOVES it. Sometimes I use the drippings to make gravy for rice or potatoes.

  2. This is a favorite here too! I like to stick 1/4 of an onion and a clove of garlic in the cavity too.
