You can purchase whole chickens pretty cheap from the grocery store. I see them on sale frequently for around $.79 lb. I actually purchased a batch of air chilled whole chickens from a local farmer Foxhollow Poultry.
Place the whole chicken in a crock pot and add about a cup of water. Add as much salt and pepper as you like. I also added some fresh sage and oregano from my herb garden.

I do this too! I drizzle a little olive oil on my chicken and then add garlic salt. :-) Everyone LOVES it. Sometimes I use the drippings to make gravy for rice or potatoes.
