My son found a "little" surprise in the nest boxes the other evening. He came running in carrying this tiny egg. Here it is next to a regular egg. This is by far the littlest egg we have ever gotten from our hens. Even the pullet eggs have never been this small. I have no idea which bird left us this little treasure.
It is hard to tell from the pictures but it is really about the size of a robin's egg. I am debating on keeping it just because it is so fun or cracking it open to see what the insides look like.
Have you ever gotten an egg this little from a chicken?
We get these occasionally, I have no idea what causes them. Usually there is no yoke inside, just a white. You could always poke a pin hole in each end and blow it and save the shell...
ReplyDeleteA chicken miscarriage?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure why but we probably got a dozen of those tiny eggs this year from our 12 chickens. Seemed like they were just normal little eggs!! I did not get them before we got the Orpingtons though.
