On my Facebook page yesterday I announced that I had made a trip to Aldi grocery store and was super excited for the deals that I found. I have been to Aldi before but it has been a really long time. I kept reading comments and suggestions about shopping there. Since everyone was raving so much about it I decided I better check it out again.
I got all that you see above for $15.75. I was amazed at the prices they had on their produce. So cheap compared to what I pay at my local Fareway and Hy-vee. Here is the breakdown.
2 gallons whole milk $3.25. I usually pay close to $4.
1 gallon 1% milk $2.83.
Mushrooms $.79 I think it's a great deal when I find them for $1 at the grocery store.
3 lbs tangerines $1.99. Not great but they looked really good and my son wanted them.
Cucumbers $.39 each
Green peppers 3 pk $.99
Bananas $.38 lb
Hamburger buns $.99
I felt good about what I bought. All the produce I got (with the exception of the peppers) are not on the "dirty dozen" list so I am ok with buying them non-organic. Looks like I have a new place to do my shopping until I can grow my own or buy from the Farmers market.
Thank you to all my readers who suggested I shop there. Because of you, I am saving more money!
It's incredible, isn't it? I've given up wasting time on clipping coupons and driving to 4 different stores - now I just shop exclusively at Aldi! Love that place!
ReplyDeleteGood for you!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had success! I usually find the produce at Aldi to be less expensive AND better quality than other places. Their milk and egg prices are usually great, too.
ReplyDeleteI love the way your packets are so huge - we buy milk in one pint containers. May I ask, what do you use all that milk for?
ReplyDeleteI was very surprised at how inexpensive the produce was Heather. Cynthia, the milk was definitely cheaper there than where I normally shop. Frugal Queen, my 15 mo old daughter drinks about a gallon of milk a week. So since the milk was good for 2 weeks I bought 2 gallons for her. The third gallon is for the other 6 of us to drink.
ReplyDeleteHave you checked into buying milk at Walgreen's? Our local Wags has Land O' Lake's milk this week for $2.79. I didn't pay attention to the price of whole milk but I bought skim and 1% and they were the same price.
ReplyDeleteI have seen cheap milk at Walgreens before. Thanks for the reminder. I will have to keep my eyes open!
ReplyDeleteMilk in Spirit Lake at Fareway (skim) has been 2.87 this month. I learned from the dairy manager there this week that milk prices change monthly, on the first. HV had it for 2.77 on one day sale but I was already stocked. We go through 4-5 gallons per week here, with just 2 adults and 2 kids. I suppose there are worse things we could drink, LOL.

I've only been to Aldi's a few times, and I'm not sure why I don't go back? I always find good deals in there...did anyone ever see the Unwrapped episode about Aldi?
ReplyDeleteWalgreens here is Des Moines carries Roberts milk & there are coupons for .55 cents off frequently!
ReplyDeleteI love Aldi. Went there today and stocked up on cheap oragnes, pineapples, and avocados! Can't beat it!
