No Dig Gardens

Are you not wanting to spend the energy digging up a plot in your yard for a garden? Is your soil too poor to maintain a crop? Or maybe you just don't have enough time to tend to all the work of a garden. There are some other options out there. No dig gardens can be a quick easy way to get your garden started in a very short time with little maintenance. They can be planted anywhere in your yard as long as there is a good amount of sunlight. Here are a few ideas.

Raised bed gardens. These can be assembled by hand. First you need to build a frame. Anything will work lumber, hay, metal, whatever you have on hand. After you have your frame lay newspaper on the bottom, add some hay and simply fill with soil. For a step by step tutorial you can read here.
Another option is soil bag planting. You can actually just plant right into a bag of topsoil. Simply slice holes into the bottom of the bag for drainage. Then cut off the top portion of the bag and plant. You can go here to read more information about this method.

Gardening doesn't have to be alot of work. The above options can save you time and energy and still produce fresh home grown produce.

  1. Great ideas. Gardening can seem overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be that way.

  2. That's so funny that you posted about planing right into a bag of soil. I had never heard of this before yesterday, when my friend's grandma was telling me about it. Now you're blogging about it! I've went 30 years without hearing about it, and now I've heard it twice in two days!
