Amish White Bread

Here is our new favorite white bread recipe. The kids can't get enough of it and 2 loaves are usually gone within a couple days.

Ingredients:
2 cups warm water (110 degrees)
2/3 cup white sugar
1 1/2 T yeast
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
6 cups bread flour (I use just regular all-purpose flour)

Directions:
1. In a large mixing bowl dissolve sugar in warm water and then add yeast. Allow to sit till yeast is foamy (about 5 minutes).2.Mix salt and oil into yeast. Add flour 1 cup at a time. Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth (about 5-8 minutes). Place in a well oiled bowl and cover with wet tea towel. Allow to rise for 1 hour or until double in bulk.
3. Punch down dough and knead for a few more minutes. Divide dough in half, shape into loaves and place into well greased loaf pans. Allow to rise about 30 minutes or until bread is 1" above loaf pan.4. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

  1. Sounds fairly easy to do and they look absolutely gorgeous. I have a feeling though that my dear hubby has just put my loaf tins into storage!

  2. Beautiful, we made some using the recipe on Allrecipes.com. I bought some 12" long loaf pans from amazon.com using swagbucks and they came out looking like Sandwich bread from the store! My husband called it "dessert" bread because it was so sweet! YUM!
