Having a Go To Meal

Last week I was sick in bed for most of the week leaving my dear husband in charge of dinner making. Unfortunately for him I got sick Sunday night so I didn't even have a meal plan set up for the week that he could go off of.

After getting up early and working all day, picking up and delivering kids, taking care of the house and all that goes with it, dinner was really the last thing he wanted to do. In our house it really is beneficial to have 2 adults around while making dinner. One to make dinner and one to wrangle children. Thankfully we had a few meals that were quick and easy to prepare.

Times like this is when it is important to have a go-to meal. I call it this because if something comes up then we have something we can put on the table that is quick, easy and healthy. My main go-to meals involve pasta and sauce because they are easy. I always keep canned fruit and veggies on hand so add those and you have an easy meal. I also try and keep packages of cooked hamburger in the freezer. You can pull it out, toss it in the microwave and have it ready in minutes for tacos.

Having go-to meals can help keep the stress level at a minimum when you are in a hurry, tired or just don't feel like cooking. It also keeps you from over spending by going out and buying something quick like fast food to feed your family.

What are your go-to meals? This post is linked to the Frugal Tuesday Tip hosted here at Learning the Frugal Life.

  1. We keep meatballs and spaghetti sauce in the freezer as our go-to meal. It came in quite handy a few weeks ago when I was sick and not up for cooking.
