What's on Your Book Shelf?

I have been on a reading kick lately. I have been actually reading big girl books instead of just Batman and nursery rhymes! It's a nice change. I haven't spent time reading in a very long time. I went to the library the other day and in the few minutes I had to look for myself I found a few books. Currently I am reading...

Organizing Your Home and Family by Sandra Felton.
And Fresh Living by Sara Snow.I am looking for some ideas on books to read. Categories I am interested in include simple living, green living, frugal living and homesteading. If you have any recommendations I would love to hear them.

  1. I'm reading "An Everlasting Meal" by Alice Waters and Tamar Adler about the lost art of simple home cooking.

  2. If I think of any books you can read, I'll come back and let you know. I really like the two you've listed here. I have read Sara Snow's book. Now what do you think of that first book you have listed here? Is it helpful and full of good ideas? I love books on homemaking, homesteading, crafts, anything DIY etc :) Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, Heather :)

  3. I recommend "Still Life With Chickens" by Catherine Goldhammer! It is a very small, short book but very charming and funny.

  4. I was also wondering how that first book you've listed is? It sounds like something I'd definitely be interested in! Thanks for sharing.
If you're looking for something inspiring to read, especially along the lines of frugality, I highly recommend "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" by Barbara Kingsolver. I have read it twice, and it was definitely the driving inspiration behind my deciding that mine and my family's life style needed to change.
You have now also inspired me to seek out some new reading material : )
    Enjoy!

  5. Thanks Paula, I love reading about chickens!

Melissa and Dani-well so far I haven't really "learned" alot from this book (Organizing your Home and Family). The only reason I say this is because it is meant for people who have problems with organizing their homes or for moms who feel like they do all the housework and the kids aren't helping. It gives great ideas for getting the whole family involved in making the house a beautiful, inviting home. I already have my children help with daily chores and on the weekends we spend Saturday mornings cleaning as a family. I am only about 3/4 through the book. If I find any additional information I will share it with you.

  6. Have you read Simple Organized Living? It was such a wonderul, life changing book for me! I also enjoyed reading through Emilie Barnes books on home organization/homemaking etc. Her book "Welcome Home" has been a huge blessing in my life as well.

  7. Heather I haven't read either of those. I will definitely put them on the list. Thank you for the suggestions.

Dani-I actually rented "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" today. Looking forward to starting that book after I read Sara Snow's book.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!!

  8. I haven't read a big girls book in a LONG time! I really should take your lead and find some time for myself. Your choice of reading material is exactly the sort of thing I would have chosen. Thanks for the inspiration!
