Using the Sun for Heat

One of the easiest (and cheapest) ways to heat your home is to use the sun. During those cold Winter days open your curtains and let the sun shine in! It will warm your room up in no time.

We are very lucky in that we have a large picture window that faces the south. I keep the curtains closed all morning, but in the afternoon if it is sunny I open them up and it warms things right up.

Natural heating works for me. To see what works for others head over to Works for Me Wednesday at We are that Family.

Oh and that big heap of blankets? That's just the top of our fort!

  1. Good tip. You should also use natural light instead of electricity too.

  2. Great tip and that's what we do. I close the curtains as soon as it gets dark in the winter and in the summer I keep them closed when the sun is directly in that room. We bought the thermal backed curtains for most of our windows and they make a difference

  3. Yes! I love relying on the sun--and closing things up when necessary. I need the natural light anyway.
