Hanging Laundry

Since adding a new baby to the family it has become a little more difficult to hang all our laundry. For one, baby clothes are tiny and there are alot of them. I always have mounds of laundry to do. It seems like it is a never ending chore for me.

So I have decided that instead of giving up on hanging laundry all together I am going to try and hang my heavy loads. My goal is to hang our towels, blankets, sheets, jeans and any other larger items. This way I can use the dryer a little less and maybe save a few dollars. When I do use the dryer I need to make sure my dryer balls are in there because they really do reduce my dryer time.

  1. I feel like there is never ending laundry at our house as well. A newborn, plus a toddler being potty training....I'm sure you can imagine:)

  2. We're not allowed to have a clothes line where we live :( At our old house, we had a huge laundry room, so I could hang some things up inside, however at this house, my laundry room is tiny with a capital T and also is the entryway into the house from the garage. No hanging laundry here!

  3. Sweet and Savory, I can COMPLETELY understand! I have the same here plus a couple of teenagers that have to change their clothes multiple times a day!

Sewing chick, that is crazy you can't have a clothes line. Is it against an ordinance or something? Maybe you would be interested in the dryer balls. It may decrease the amount of time you run your dryer.

  4. My dryer broke over the winter so I decided to make use of all the children sized clothes hangers that my sister gave me. All my 2 year olds clothes fit perfectly on them (and my 7 and 5 yo too!). I would just hang them on the curtain rods with a little space between them. They dry overnight and keep the humidity level up in the dry house. @Sewing-chick- I also hung a clothes line inside my house. I put up a hook in the top of the doorway moulding and across the room to the top of the window moulding and strung a line. I made loops on the end so I can just take it down when needed! It works well! I have and old house with thick, strong moulding so make sure you anchor your hooks to something strong! Hope this helps someone!

  5. I love hanging laundry out but have let myself use the dryer w/o guilt when its raining on laundry day, or when I just need it done NOW.

  6. Ok. My strange household secret is that we don't have a dryer. It broke six months ago. I haven't replaced it. I set up two drying racks in its place and have a clothes line that hangs in the basement. Little stuff goes on the racks, jeans and towels/sheets go on the line, and shirts go on hangers. I kind of love it. I promised my husband we'd go get a new dryer before it really snows, here.
