Cooking From Scratch

I have been on a roll this last couple weeks. I am feeling pretty proud about all the homemade items I have made. I have always loved making banana bread, pumpkin bread, strudel and of course, cookies. But this past year I have really gotten into making more and more things from scratch. I have realized that I love to bake. It is something I can do with my kids and they enjoy it too.

My window of baking has now opened up to making not just yummy fruit breads but plain ol' white and wheat breads, buns, biscuits and dinner rolls. All of these taste great and are much better for you than store bought breads. This last week I made croutons as well as pita bread (ok, well the pita bread didn't turn out exactly how I would like). I have even dabbled at making my own granola bars.

I am hoping to continue making more of our foods from scratch and buying less processed foods from the grocery stores.

There is something exciting about making your own food. Being able to be a little more self sufficient and rely less on the big grocery stores. I feel proud when we sit down at the table and the kids say "good bread mom". It is very satisfying!

  7. I was also wondering if you'd share the recipe you used for the cinnamon bread. I bet it'd make amazing French Toast!
